# Tracking

> Fix problems with tracked time, idle time, activity, and screenshots

## Settings changes have not reached the device

Devices pick up new settings every couple of minutes while online. To apply them right away, click **Push Settings** on the user's [Tracker Settings tab](/users/edit-user#tracker-settings).

## Some time is missing

Common reasons:

| Reason | What to check |
| - | - |
| Idle time was discarded | [Keep Idle Time](/tracker-settings/keep-idle-time) is Off. Idle stretches over 8 hours are always discarded |
| Outside shift hours | In Silent mode with [Track Outside Shift Hours](/tracker-settings/track-outside-shift-hours) Off, tracking stops outside the user's shift |
| Timer not started | In Manual mode, time only counts while the timer runs |
| Not synced yet | The device was offline. Activity uploads when it reconnects, or immediately with **Sync time** in the tray menu |
| Wrong day | The time may belong to a different day because of the shift's **Day Starts At**. See [Metric Definitions](/getting-started/metrics#what-counts-as-a-day) |

## A user shows as idle while working

Idle means no keyboard or mouse input. Reading, calls, and presentations can look idle. Increase the [Idle after](/tracker-settings/idle-timeout) time for that user, or keep idle time so it still counts toward total time.

## Activity % looks low

Activity % reflects keyboard and mouse input, not productivity. Roles with a lot of reading or meetings naturally score lower. See [Metric Definitions](/getting-started/metrics#activity-percentage).

## Time shows under no project

Silent mode does not record a project or task. To track time by project, use Manual mode so employees pick a task. See [Tracker Mode](/tracker-settings/tracker-mode).

## Websites are missing or show as the browser name

* Check that [Track Apps](/tracker-settings/track-apps) is on
* On macOS, allow Monitor360 to control each browser if asked. If websites still don't appear, contact support

## Screenshots are missing

* Screenshots are only taken while the tracker is running, at a random time within each interval
* On macOS, check the **Screen Capture** permission
* If the image is unreadable, check the [Blur Screenshots](/tracker-settings/blur-screenshots) level
* Check [Device Events](/devices/device-events#tampering) for **Screenshot Deleted** events

## Productivity numbers look wrong

Time in apps or websites with no classification counts as Neutral. Set levels on the [Applications](/tracker-settings/applications) page or add [grouping rules](/advanced-settings). Rules are checked in priority order, so a broader rule with a lower priority number can override a specific one.

## Times are off by hours

Make sure the computer's date, time, and timezone are set automatically. Clock problems are also recorded as **Device Time Mismatch** in [Device Events](/devices/device-events#device-clock).
